FAQ's

About FAQ's

Please do not hesitate to let me know if there is something you do not understand. This is by no means a comprehensive list of FAQ's, so when you bring my attention to something that is important to you, it helps me be more clear and informative to the next person looking for support. I am always happy to clarify things and if I don't have the answer, I will do what I can to help you find it.

Do you offer free consultations before starting therapy?

Absolutely! When you initially reach out, this will be our first step. I will ask you questions about what your needs are, your availability for sessions, and give you opportunity to ask me questions to see if I might be what you are looking for! The worst thing that happens is we find we aren't the best fit and I help point you in the right direction.

Are there any other fees I should know about?

Yes. As your session time is being held specifically for you, if you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice (or are more than 15 minutes late to your scheduled appointment) your credit card on file will be charged for the full session fee. There are also charges for calls lasting longer than 10 minutes. Phone calls longer than 10 minutes will be prorated based on your regular rate.

Can anyone do tele-therapy?

For the most part, and that is also why consultation is important. There are some people for whom virtual sessions are not advised due to the nature of how care is provided (you need to have basic literacy with technology, access to stable internet and privacy to speak freely safely during your appointment). Others with significant acuity due to their mental health condition(s) would often be better served in-person as there are limitations to both clinical assessment and treatment interventions when care is only delivered virtually. Research has shown that “telehealth is essentially just as effective as face-to-face psychotherapy" and that due to the increased ease of access, clients are able to stay in therapy with fewer interferences to their treatment. Plus, not having to take more time off, less traffic, less opportunity of running into your daughter's choir teacher in the waiting room and the ease of it all is a major bonus, am I right?

How long does each therapy session take?

Therapy session length can vary depending on the client and/or situation.  In order for therapy to be most beneficial, the standard session length is 45-55 minutes.

How do you collect payment?

I accept all major credit cards, check, and health savings account cards at the time of service.

What techniques do you use?

There are many different techniques and interventions to use.  There is no one size fits all approach. I use a variety of different techniques/interventions.  I will collaborate with you to determine what would be most beneficial.

I see you only accept some insurances and not others. What do I do if you don't accept mine?

Therapy is an investment whether it costs you a copay or the full cost of a session. I try to make therapy accessible to those who cannot afford out of pocket therapy by accepting some insurances. If I do not accept your insurance I will provide you with a superbill upon your request for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement should your benefits plan permit. If you would like to check to see if your insurance company will cover the cost or some of the cost of therapy with an out-of-network provider, call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask the following questions:

    • Am I covered for psychotherapy with an out-of-network provider?
    • Do I need prior authorization?
    • Do I have a deductible?
    • How many sessions will you cover per year?
    • How much will I be reimbursed for?
    • How do I submit the bill for reimbursement?
    • Where do I send the super bill to?
Do you offer sliding scale options?

Yes, I offer some sliding scale slots because it's my goal to provide therapy to anyone who wants it. During our consultation we can discuss your situation and determine what can be done to help you get the help you need.

How long will it take for me to feel better?

Unfortunately, it is impossible to give a quantitative measurement as to when you will feel better, as that depends on many factors. I hope that with your commitment and desire to feel better, we will make continuous progress that is aligned with your goals.

Can I contact you in between sessions?

Yes! If you need to contact me in between sessions, please email me or leave a message on my voicemail. Most times I cannot answer immediately if I am in session with other clients; however, I will attempt to return your call within 24 hours. I ask that you use email solely for scheduling purposes as this is not a secure (or therapeutic) platform to discuss clinical concerns.
